I went to my first pride, I’ve been out for years but not been to a PRIDE until earlier in July! A lot of fun was had and I mixed the pride parade with a small birthday meet. A couple of friends managed to have time free and met me up for the day, to be fair .. I didn’t really give much notice as I had the idea at the last minute!!
Here are a few of my favourites from the day. You can see the entire 95 photo collection here in this photo set on flickr.
Ps. Love those ‘nobody knows I’m gay’ type shirts, my friend bought me one but I’ll have to remember it next time I’m at PRIDE ;)
I’ve found one of my dream contests as a photographer and it’s still open (as of writing this post). It’s always exiting when you come across a contest that you think .. ooo I might be able to win this one. So when ever I get that feeling I enter and give it ago.
I’ve been following Jasmine Stars blog for a long LONG time now, I’m a lurker there as I’ve never actually left a comment! BUT. I’m inspired by her and I want to run a business that is like hers, but for the LGBT market .. ie. gay wedding photography! I’d be as happy as cupid with a target in sight! So when I read the blog and saw that’s she is doing a workshop in New Zealand I was jealous .. what about the Europe folks and specifically the UK?! *wibble wibble*
So I’m not going to worry about that, I’m going to preface this contest entry by saying ” If I WIN, I need a lotta help to get there by January 5th!” .. my practicle brain is going, no way, nuhuh you’ll never make it .. the event costs just under £400 which is up for grabs in this contest .. yet the flight, accommodations will easily be nearly £2000 *sigh*. If someone figures a cheaper way to get to Christchurch, New Zealand please let me know. My heart and dreams are going ‘buh, buh .. I wanna go!’. So here is my self portrait and star entry to her competition and may some kind spirit somewhere cough up some shiny stuff to help me get there?!

Back me up folks, show me your support in the comments please.
Ps. I’m hoping for a couple more clients to bulk up my portfolio showcase, so if you are a musician, actor or person wanting a FREE business portrait (limited time only) .. I’ve a couple of slots going spare still. Get in touch with me on my business facebook page :D
Welcome to my new business: CathieGraphy a London Lifestyle Photographer and Vinyl Decal Maker. This post is a little bit of a ramble / explanation of the name CathieGraphy and why I have an apostrophe in the logo design. I came up with the CathieGraphy name because firstly my nickname is Cath and secondly ‘graphy’ is a suffix which defines itself as:
‘graphy:
a combining form denoting a process or form of drawing, writing, representing, recording, describing, etc., or an art or scienceconcerned with such a process: biography; choreography; geography; orthography; photography
- dictionary.com
Combine the two together and make Cath have rhyming end to ‘graphy’ and you get CathieGraphy. So now you know why I’m called CathieGraphy in my business. I’m a London based professional who does photography, works with typography when creating illustrations for my sticky art otherwise known as vinyl decals.

I’m facinated by quite a few different things and one of those is words. Why do I bring this up? Well I’m mildly dyslexic which means that I have to be very careful about how I write and what I write. Quite often I make mistakes and this blog is going to prove that, however I aim to do my best to keep improving my writing. So I’m stating that I’m a mildly dyslexic london photographer!
I’ve been checking up on the branding I’m doing and I’m happy with the design, however I wanted to make sure that I was using the apostrophe correctly (thank goodness for spell check, I nearly spelled that wrong!). According to the book Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation
by Lynne Truss, I am using the apostrophe correctly in two precise ways according to my interpretations ;)
1. It indicates the omission of letters – which is true as the Cathie part of Cathie Graphy is to be swapped out to make a real word, i.e. photography, videography, typography etc. This is why my branding logo represents as Cathie’graphy but when written in this blog and for search terms it will be Cathie Graphy / cathie graphy.
2. It determines a possessive – in a way I’m being possessive over the fact that this is my stamp on the way I do visual creative arts, your getting a brand of service that is unique to each artist, this one happens to be mine. So I’m being possessive in a plural way of all the graphic fields that I perform in: photography, videography, in a small way a typography, recently into orthography (by courtesy of being a blogger) and creating a new ‘graphy’ of being a designographer .. I can do neologisms too. ;)
So I’ve now bamboozled you with lots of words I’ve been learning from my daily word emails. As well as the fact I’m too much of a brain at times and think to much! This is all thanks to many years of academia .. even though I’ll protest that I’m not really that academic .. because I judge myself on the scale of other academics! I’m just well educated in my chosen fields and my education has taught me one very valuable lesson: how to learn!
So there we have it, I’m sure I’m going to get comments in the future about this post arguing about my interpretations of the UK English gramatical language but hey, I’ve done my research and I think I’m right. It’s my brand and I’m sticking to it ;)
By the way do check out the book, Lynne Truss has a truly stinging wit when she writes and explains grammar :D
